Abstract

|
In the fast growing society like Korea social Welfare Policy for the elderly is one of the most important social issues. The elderly Population group in Korea accounts for 6% of the population in 1995 and 12.5% in 2020. Life expectancy has been raised to 65 years in 1985 and it is estimated 77 years in 2020.
However we have seen that the elderly group in Korea has been treated well since a set of social welfare policies for this group has not been established properly. It has to made a concrete social welfare policy a historical analysis of them by consistently approving policies and programs and by appropriating the funds necessary for their social welfare. Thus this paper would like to provide a historical analysis of the policy-making process and the problems of the elderly group in Korea. And then four social welfare policies for the elderly group would be suggested, i. e. income maintenance policy, medical care policy, housing policy, and the social welfare services policy. We hope to reach a point in the evaluation of our welfare state where the status of the elderly is improved significantly.
